My external hard drive got fried and I felt like jumping out my window or setting myself on fire for losing years of artwork and photography along with a lot of recent stuff.

Nothing too exciting going on in my life. Actually a lot of things are. Could you believe I got a job as an animator? Yeah, me neither. I graduated expecting to do everything else (i.e. illustrator, photographer, dog walker, construction worker, gold digger) but I spent all day making things move today & now I'm spent. Or maybe I shouldn't have just slept three hours last night.

No one reads this anyway. Deleting soon.

Wow, i haven't posted here in months! It's already 2009!!!

Well, i lied about my last post. i really didn't stop drawing. i'm drawing more than ever now. My friend started a production company & he's working on a cartoon show pitch for which i'm on board for as an animator/character designer/concept artist. Also, i'm interning at two incredible animation studios, and on top of that i'm trying to finish a thesis film. My right hand went numb two nights ago from drawing (this happened around 5 am, no i didn't sleep) so i started doing animation roughs with my left hand. It was actually super fun. Anyway, so much has happened since May! Here's what happened in a stream of consciousness paragraph:

June, hospital, psychiatric ward, anti-depressants, move back to Jersey, in a relationship status, internship, work, trip to the Philippines, off the happy pills, THESIS, more internships, more THESIS, ex-boyfriends, single status, move back to New York!, party,party,party, get another internship (2 more), teaching job, work, intern, school, work, intern, school, meet new boyfriend<3 loooove liiife oh & MORE WORK ON THESIS FILM.

i would post some work from that film, but FLASH isn't working on this computer. Oh well, i'll be back blogspot. For now, here's a life drawing or two from October...

Last week:

i)

Watched avant-nerd extraordinaire, Richard Foreman's play "Deep Trance Behavior in Potatoland". MIND-BLOWING. It's more of a performance art piece, than traditional theater because there's no cohesive plot, & everything tortures your eyes, ears, & stomach. i think it was the closest thing to a metaphysical meltdown i've ever experienced in my life. Good thing? Bad thing? Don't really know, but it was interesting. It's still playing at the Ontological-Hysteric Theater at St. Mark's. Free admission on Tuesdays last time i checked. If anyone sees it, don't go high because you'll probably kill yourself; it's that trippy.

After the show, Foreman answered some questions & talked about his work. When asked what inspired him, he quoted Hemingway in saying "All an artist needs, is to take a good shit." & apparently droppin' deuces works for him because he's won a dozen awards, including a MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship. Also, what's with brilliant people rockin' the crazy hair look? Other than Foreman, see:

Went to a Penelope screening with Asia. Cait couldn't make it which bummed me out 'coz she was conspiring to get her Casper VHS tape signed by Christina Ricci, who did a Q&A after the movie. i bet she would've laughed at the joke 'coz she seemed like a pretty alright girl. She said her favorite actor she's worked with is Samuel L. Jackson "coz he's a baaad muthaucka", & that she regrets getting "Move or bleed" tattooed on her ribcage.

5 minutes into the interview:
"I think the girl next to me is having an orgasm."
i looked over Asia's shoulder, & decided to caricature the bespectacled girl's besotted face since it was too funny. [see above drawing]

Penelope was released on Friday, & is playing in theatres now, but Black Snake Moan fans would be disappointed. Penelope is about a high-society broad cursed with a Miss Piggy nose, & in order to get cured, she needs to bed a fellow millionaire. Or maybe learn to love her ugly mug for what it is? Sound exciting? Granted, it had it's L.O.L moments, but don't watch it, unless you also happen to enjoy fairy tales, & movies such as Never Been Kissed, The Princess Diaries, and like watching Hannah Montana with your little sister.

In other news, subway rides make everybody so sleepy lately.

'Sup, snowstorm!?

(yes, those are bars on my window because i live in a prison, & by prison i mean ghetto 'hood)

i have this foreboding sense of doom that i'm going to die soon. i don't know why, or where it's coming from. Maybe it's the dreary weather. Maybe it's the sounds of projectile vomiting surrounding me. Maybe it's the crazy homeless people of New York city who feel compelled to hit on me lately. Or maaaybe it's because i've got class from 3-6, & then work at 11 PM - 4 AM tonight, for which i've got to traverse through freezing snow & ice... clad in a little black dress.
Nah, it might just be my period & the hormonal fluctuations makin' me feel all weird inside. Damn ovaries & womanhood.

My heater is still leaking sporadically, & if i didn't go to bed with my winter jacket, & 3 layers of blankets, i'd probably have pneumonia by now. This lack of proper heating could be one of the reasons my roomie went back home yesterday, after pukin' up her virus all morning. The people upstairs came down with something, too. One time i was in the bathroom, & directly overhead me i heard coughing, & more barfing noises. You know what makes you feel really sexy? Hearing the disembodied sounds of vomiting when you're just freshly out of the shower, dripping wet, & naked. Ohhhh yeeeeah.

As for the city's crazies, everyone's got at least one good story about 'em. One time i was waiting for my train, & an elderly black couple sat next to me. The man had the most awesome voice, like what Louis Armstrong or Tom Waits would sound like after 30 years of downing absinthe, & smoking rocks outta crack pipes. To contrast him, his wife had a very high-pitched sweet, old lady voice. & this dialogue ensued:

Woman: "Do you want some candy?"
Man [looks at her blankly]: "... NO!"
W: "Why you so meeeean to me?"
M: "YOU MAH CANDY. MAH CANDY'S NAME IS JANICE"

& Janice giggles like a giddy schoolgirl while i'm trying to hold in my laughter.

What a slick, sweet-talker; almost as slick as this disheveled veteran that approached Shraga, Reb, & me during lunch on Tuesday. The senior citizen started talking about how he has Tourette's, & that's why he's into psychology. Said he likes talking to young people because it makes him feel not so old & cranky. Asked me if i was "full bred" (???), & then talked about how he was stationed in the Philippines, before he got shipped to Korea to fight in the war. He then asked me if i was in the girl scouts, because i was wearing a boy scouts jacket.
"Why are you wearing that? You're not a boy! Are you?"
"Maybe, i could be a boy-girl. You never know". Then Shraga tells him i'm really a boy. The geezer mumbles something about being a doctor, & that he could check to see, & walks away. WTF!? Did he just hit on me? "Totally, he just offered to undress you." Before i can register how gross that is, he comes back, & says "You know, for a boy you're not so bad looking. For you..." leans in closer to the table "I might even ..." leans in a little more closer, "turn into a homosexuaaaal". i told him it was the sweetest thing i've ever heard, & then he proposed we go hiking so i could earn a badge to put on my jacket. What a romantic! haha
Yeah, Reb & i are preeetty sure that he's killed someone.

& as for what i'm doing living the hard knocked life of night time hustlin'; i'm neither strippin' nor pushin'!!! & that's all anyone needs to know for now.

Here's a pencil test of a 4-legged walk cycle exercise. Some things are off, but hey drawing is hard & making them move is even harder. That & i also can't draw animals. It's realistically done because i planned to ink it, but decided i should do that for a running horse because it's a more dynamic action and would be more interesting than this boring one.

It's 20 degrees outside right now, & my heater exploded & continues to spew brown liquid. This makes me sad. Sad & cold. My tears..turning..into...icicles. i wonder if breathing airborne pathogens consisting of paint debris & urine-smelling mold will cause early lung failure. Probably. & now i'm eating cereal. It's making me colder. Warm cereal should be invented for occasions such as this. Wait, i think that already exists. & i think it's called porridge &/or oatmeal. ...nevermind.

Some of October's drawings from the underground. When i was doing the blue one in pencil, a guy sitting next to me watched for a while, until he decided to let the woman across from me know that i was sketchin' her. It was kind of a weird encounter considering the woman didn't care to see the picture at all, & i can't say i did either, but the guy was so hyped about it. We all looked at each other for a minute with awkward smiles, until the train stopped at Union Square, where we all got off & proceeded to remain strangers.

Summer's gone, although today in New York city the high will be 88 degrees, & October is less than a week away. i'm living in Brooklyn for the time being, so sketches from the subway rides to the city are building up. For now, i'll put up some old drawings from this past spring, to compare to my recent ones i'll post later on.

Like whoaaaa, haven't been here in forever. i just skimmed through the few drawings i have, & am so embarrassed i even put them up that i almost deleted this whole thing. i've decided to keep it because progress is fun to see. Yeesh. Hopefully, i can get better this summer, even though i'm taking philosophy, sociology, & psych classes 'till July. To add to that, this past Thursday night i became a mommy.

MEET SPATZ! It's a boy. He's kinda too much.

The old man (who is currenty in the hospital & is unable to take care of it) found him... so now i've got to muster up all maternal instincts in me to help it survive, but i'm afraid i might have to keep him as a pet considering they imprint as babies terribly, especially when raised alone. What have i learned from spending all weekend taking care of Spatz? i'm never ever having kids, & being the owner of functional ovaries is a highly unfortunate state of affairs.

i haven't had a lot of time to draw in my spare time due to copious amounts of reading for humanities classes, & After FX'ing, & unnecessary Flash work i gave myself. Urgahheeh. Also, the short film is due in a month or two & that's gonna take up a lot of time, so this blog might be neglected for the time being.

Lately, i've been on this kick drawing straight ahead with sharpies & brush pens, & i'm positive it's making me draw worse, but i'm addicted & won't stop 'coz it's so fun.
